Why the lemon?
Our mascot is the Meyer Lemon – a hybrid of a traditional tart lemon and a sweet mandarin orange. What do you think of when you think of a lemon? Lemonade … a junk car … grandma’s furniture polish? “13 Ways of Looking at a Lemon” is a warm up exercise we use with teams to spark creativity, build narrative agility, and foster an audience-centric mindset.
Lemonal is a real word that means having a citrus quality. For our purposes, it’s also a hybridization of lemon + liminal. Our world is rapidly becoming ever more complex, and most of our hardest problems exist on the thresholds between new and old ways of doing things, disparate fields of expertise, and diverse personal experiences. Luckily, many of our best solutions can also be found in those liminal, in-between spaces. Lemonal Strategy is an approach that rallies us to enter complexity, ambiguity, and change together, wielding the complimentary powers of tart reason and sweet optimism.
